The roof of a Rolling Meadows gas station caught fire Sunday afternoon and spread into the business, but the fuel pumps were not affected.
The fire broke at the Shell, 2200 W. Algonquin Road, about 2:30 p.m. and was quickly extinguished by Rolling Meadows firefighters.
Fire officials were not available to comment Sunday, but a store employee said she was told"an outside ignition source" sparked the fire on the roof. "You could smell it. It was smoky on the inside," Debbie Sennett said."The store started to fill up with smoke." A hole was left above the store's beer cooler, and the inside of the building was filled with water, she added.
