Fire shutters Conroe Animal Shelter, no pets injured

The Conroe Animal Shelter shuttered on Saturday following a fire at the facility in which no one was injured, according to the shelter. Firefighters responded before noon to the shelter located on the 400 block of Sgt. Ed Holcomb Boulevard, according to the They saw heavy smoke and learned that a container holding ashes had caught fire, according to the report. Flames damaged a fence, an outside wall and a freezer unit, but no animals or staff were harmed.
