Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will announce new “streamlined” waiver flexibility that will allow schools to repurpose existing K-12 funds for technology infrastructure and teacher training on distance learning during the coronavirus emergency

FIRST LOOK:A new “streamlined process” will provide states funding flexibilities to meet students and educators’ needs during the national emergency, according to the department.

— “By extending additional funding flexibility to schools, we are helping to ensure student learning continues and supporting teachers as they transition to virtual classrooms,” DeVos says in a statement to be released today., allows states and school districts to devote more of their federal resources

to technology infrastructure to support distance learning for students and professional development for educators who are teaching remotely.and it will receive an initial determination within one business day. States can receive flexibility in the use of funds and other requirements covered under certain provisions of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and the General Education Provisions Act, according to the department.
