Lyrical Lines is performed at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral March 5 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the door. Masks are required. “We are choosing to honour and support Ukraine by performing a work by one of their best-loved composers, Vasyl Barvinsky. This is a work of lyricism and passion, incorporating the lively Kolomyika dance style, traditionally danced on festive occasions. The Brahms B major trio we are performing is a work by the young Brahms that contains a depth of emotion far beyond his years.
Elixir Ensemble performs at Emmanuel Anglican Church March 11 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 to $25, available atCanadian Trumpeter Jens Lindemann joins the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra in celebrating the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue on March 11, 2023.presents Rhapsody in Blue, reimagining George Gershwin’s iconic piece of music on its 100th anniversary. Canadian trumpeter Jens Lindemann and Saskatoon pianist Michelle Alders join the orchestra in this performance.
“Gershwin was well positioned as a very successful composer of popular, classical and jazz music to envision such a piece and from the very first note — the iconic clarinet gliss — Rhapsody in Blue was and remains to this day, to be hugely popular. This work is an iconic piece of American music and the SJO is honoured and delighted to be performing and, in so doing, celebrating the work of Gershwin.
