Fixing the Social Security system before it becomes a financial crisis is possible, but it will require true leadership, hard decisions and compromise. Are you listening, Congress? Here are three ways to fix Social Security – two good ones, and one really lousy one:Not everyone wants to think about working later into their lives, but the retirement age that we have now does not relate at all to our life expectancy in the modern world.
Adjusting the percentage of our income we pay into Social Security taxes based on age could help lessen the risk of a crisis and create more fairness in the system. Under this system, younger workers would contribute less as a percentage of their income, but for more years than their parents and grandparents did.
