Dennis Libonati, 68, admitted to police that he tried to break into all 26 vehicles 'with the intent to steal one to use for transportation.' Two of the vehicles belonged to the sheriff's office.
A Florida man — who was released from jail on Monday — was arrested again later that day after he attempted to break into 26 cars in the jail parking lot because he needed a vehicle"to use for transportation."
Video surveillance of the parking lot showed the defendant"attempting to enter 26 vehicles in the common parking area by pulling on door handles," but"all vehicles were locked so entry was not made," the complaint said, adding that two sheriff's office vehicles — a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Kawasaki Mule ATV — were among those he attempted to break into and steal.
During questioning, Libonati admitted to officers that he had tried to break into"all the aforementioned vehicles with the intent to steal one to use for transportation," according to police. He also admitted he had attempted to"hot wire" the ATV before authorities confronted him.
