Florida's top emergency administrator on Monday defended local response to Hurricane Ian, amid growing criticism of Lee County officials who were allegedly slow to evacuate low-lying communities.and devastating Fort Myers and Sanibel Island.

While other nearby jurisdictions took such action one or two days earlier than Lee County, he refused to critique the decisions. A representative of the Lee County Manager's Office could not be immediately reached for comment Monday.
