reported on the death of Amanda Hicks, a middle school teacher in Martin County, on Monday after she was killed by her fiancé, who then shot himself.
Police also said a single gunshot was heard the previous night, with the fiancé attempting to contact a family member. Police said baby was left alone in her crib unharmed for approximately 11 hours until officers forced entry into the house. The Martin County School District said the community is devastated by Hick's death. She was a reading teacher at Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School and started her teaching career with Martin County Schools in 2019, said Jennifer DeShazo, who is the director of communications of Martin Co. Schools.
