An effort to require parents' OK for children to access social media sites is advancing through the Arkansas Legislature, just a few weeks after Utah became the first state in the nation to sign a similar measure into law.

Sanders last month announced her support for the Arkansas bill, which would require age verification and parental consent for users under the age of 18. The measure would require social media companies to contract with a third party vendor for age verification. The restrictions would only apply to social media platforms that generate more than $100 million in annual revenue. If Sanders signs the measure, it would take effect in September.
