Beneficiaries will begin to see their benefits for the month of August on Aug. 1, and distribution for the month is scheduled to conclude on Aug. 7.SNAP beneficiaries with a case number that ends in 0-3 will see their benefits on Aug.

Statistics show that roughly 9% of the state's population, or approximately 794,600 people, receive assistance paying for food through the food stamps program. Food stamps may be used to purchase"food or food products meant to be eaten by people," along with seeds and food-producing plants, among other things, per the state. In Virginia, items that cannot be purchased using food stamps benefits include nonfood items, alcohol, tobacco, medicines, gardening items, cleaning or paper products, pet food, or prepared hot foods.In Virginia, benefit amounts depend on household size and income.
SNAP payments are given to beneficiaries on an electronic benefit transfer card, or Virginia EBT, allowing those in the program to purchase eligible items using their benefits at stores in the commonwealth.
