Say hello to the players leading statistical categories in N.J.'s five football conferences

The final opportunities for players to improve their positions on respective conference leaderboards comes down to traditional holiday rivalries and also five games being played for the first time in state history. We are down to just 32 games in this 2022-23 season and the last five will be overall public school group championships for the first time in state history Dec. 3 and 4 at Rutgers’ SHI Stadium in Piscataway: Woodbury vs. Mountain Lakes in Group 1; Caldwell vs. Rumson-Fair Haven in Group 2; Old Tappan vs. Delsea in Group 3; Northern Highlands vs. Millville in Group 4; and Toms River North vs. Passaic Tech in Group 5.
But before that big weekend, five regular season games are scheduled for Wednesday night and 20 more on Thanksgiving morning to renew some longstanding rivalries. On Friday, the Non-Public A and B finals will be contested at Met-Life Stadium in East Rutherford: DePaul vs. Red Bank Catholic for the B title at 3 p.m., and Don Bosco Prep vs. Bergen Catholic for the A championship and the state’s No. 1 ranking at 6.
