The Monterey Peninsula almost became another character in the hit HBO series, but Zoe Kravitz has her reasons for not being a fan.
in 2018, the show’s cast and crew were savoring their time spent in Monterey Bay.
But according to Kravitz, who is known for being outspoken on matters of race, politics and body image, that wasn’t her experience. In the Guardian interview, she also revealed another time she encountered racism in her career, even though she could be considered “show business royalty,” as the daughter of actor Lisa Bonet and musician/actor Lenny Kravitz.
“I don’t know if it came directly from Chris Nolan,” Kravitz told The Guardian, trying not to impugn the reputation of an award-winning director. “I think it was probably a casting director of some kind, or a casting director’s assistant … . Being a woman of color and being an actor and being told at that time that I wasn’t able to read because of the color of my skin, and the word ‘urban’ being thrown around like that, that was what was really hard about that moment.
