This year, Cardinal Kevin Farrell is honored for his “kindred spirit,” said Jack Wall, president of Catholic Extension.
Cupich quoted Farrell, saying that he helps those in need not because “they’re Cathlotic, but because we’re Catholic.”and supported the ban on blessing same-sex unions by Pope Francis. However, he said that all individuals can receive pastoral care, despite their sexuality.
Farrell supports the rights of immigrants and gun control. He has worked with Latino communities during his nine years in Dallas and hoped to build bridges between Latino- and Anglo-Catholic communities.
