Former Eufaula High and Ole Miss football player KD Hill may no longer have a right leg following amputation due to a horrific automobile accident in July, but he’s never
“Like I told some people a while back, if Jesus walked with that cross on his back and He died for all of our sins, why not get up and give Him everything I’ve got. I’m strong mentally, spiritually and physically, because of the grace of God and His mercy He has shined upon my life,” Hill said in a phone interview this week.
“Actually, when the state trooper arrived, the first thing I said was, ‘Sir, can you hold my hand?’” Hill said. “I said, ‘Let’s pray.’ So right then and there, that’s when my faith was already there. God already had his armor wrapped around me from spending time with Him, reading my scriptures and always glorifying Him in everything I did.”
“As I got to the hospital, I said, ‘Momma feed my spirit,’” Hill said. “I would tell her that every day, and every single day we would read the Bible together as we always did. “I was sitting next to my friends … you know how it is at that age you want to sit next to your friends in church … and I literally felt something just pull me out into the aisle.
Before the start of last season, Hill was announced as the Chucky Mullins Courage Award winner, the most prestigious individual award given on the team each year. “Of course we are two different people and had two different accidents and things that occurred in our lives. But the way we kept our faith and always knew that God had something better for us is very similar for us.
“C.B. Webb is a family to me and each and every one of those kids know that,” Hill said. “I told them, ‘Don’t look at me as KD Hill the football player; look at me as your brother. Or if you don’t have a father, look at me as a father figure.’ I don’t want to be known as the football player, because I’m bigger than that.”
A bright future aheadThe day after the accident, Hill was already up and moving. He refuses to look back.
