Former Ohio state senator Shirley Smith has not yet officially launched her campaign for Cuyahoga County Executive, but she says she's running.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Shirley Smith, a former state senator who recently lost a bid for the 11th Congressional District, is planning her second campaign for Cuyahoga County executive.Her first challenge, she said, is trying to secure the Democratic Party’s endorsement when the executive committee meets at the end of the month.
Smith also ran for the county’s top seat in 2014, falling to County Executive Armond Budish in the primary. Most recently, she competed in the crowded special election to succeed U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge as the 11th Congressional District representative. Shontel Brown, a former Cuyahoga County Councilwoman, won the seat.
“I just don’t find that I should take all that institutional knowledge and be selfish with it,” she said. “I still want to help people.”
