A newly released report indicates the Wisconsin Senate's former chief clerk resigned amid a sexual misconduct investigation. The Legislature's human resources office released a report Tuesday summarizing an investigation into allegations that Michael Queensland sexually assaulted a woman during a May conference in Palm Springs, California.

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Senate’s former chief clerk resigned amid a sexual misconduct investigation, according to an investigator’s report released Tuesday.in September. Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said in a two-sentence statement at the time that Queensland resigned following a “credible allegation.” He added that Queensland had denied all allegations but didn’t reveal what those allegations were.

She interviewed a woman identified as Jane Doe employed in a legislative clerk’s office in another state. The report said the woman told Lessack she met Queensland during a legislative conference in Palm Springs, California.Man faces misdemeanor charge for twice bringing guns to Wisconsin Capitol, demanding to see governorAccording to the report, the woman said she and Queensland spent the evening of May 6 drinking and she passed out when she got back to her hotel.

Lessack concluded that there was enough evidence to support the woman’s allegations. She said she believed Queensland rehearsed his statements to her. She added that the woman told Queensland an hour before the encounter that she would never be interested in a married man because she found infidelity offensive, which should have put Queensland on notice that she would not welcome any sexual advances from him.

Queensland did not immediately respond to an email Tuesday from The Associated Press seeking comment, and attempts to reach him by phone were not successful.
