The character that made her famous also foreshadowed Fran Drescher’s biggest role yet.
In Season 2 of her sitcom “The Nanny,” which ran from 1993 to 1999, Drescher’s character Fran Fine refuses to cross a picket line in an episode titled, “The Strike.”
People are also reading… Fast forward to 2023 and Drescher is standing at the center of a strike that has brought Hollywood to a standstill. “We are being victimized by a very greedy entity,” Drescher said in a fiery speech on Thursday. “I am shocked by the way the people that we have been in business with are treating us. I cannot believe it, quite frankly, how far apart we are on so many things.”
As a rape and later a uterine cancer survivor, Drescher has long been a leader in advancing women’s health initiatives, helping to secure the passage of the Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act. It is the breadth of her personal and professional experiences that led to her decision to run for the SAG-AFTRA presidency in 2021.
