Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced that all non-essential businesses will be shut down Saturday at midnight in an effort to battle the spread of COVID-19.
PARIS, March 14 - France will shut most shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities from midnight on Saturday as part of measures to contain the spread of the new coronavirus, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said.
Philippe said the government had been left with no choice but to take the decision because too many people were still out in the streets and not sufficiently applying measures that were recently announced. That, he said, was helping accelerate the spread of the virus.
