It's been more than two weeks since the Fresno Unified School District began its investigation.
At the time, it was unclear what had happened before the person began filming or who Veenendaal was referring to. However, at a meeting of the district’s board of trustees last week, the person who filmed the video — identified as Bullard High School student Kyra Schrubb — toldthat she believes Veenendaal was racial profiling her and her friends, who are Black.
“He proceeded to record us and then said there are three more black girls walking through, so that was when I pulled out my phone and I started recording him, harassing us, he came onto us,” Schrubb told KSEE. “I am a father of two Black daughters, and I know that statements such as those made by the vice principal devalue and stigmatize children,” he said. “When inappropriate comments are made, we cannot be silent. That is why I felt compelled to come and stay until this time in the evening, to be heard.”
