A Gardendale man has been criminally charged in a 2021 head-on crash that killed a west Alabama woman.
Matthew Osby, 28, is charged with manslaughter in the July 20 death of 53-year-old Deborah Denise Brown Thomas. The victim lived in Carrollton. The crash happened at 7:05 a.m. that Tuesday in the 6500 block of Old Tuscaloosa Highway near McAshan Ridge Road. Authorities said Thomas was traveling northbound on Old Tuscaloosa Highway when her Hyundai Sonata was struck head-on by a Ford Taurus traveling southbound in the opposing lane.Osby and a female from the second vehicle were taken to the hospital with injuries.
According to charging documents against Osby made public Tuesday, he “recklessly caused the death of Deborah Brown by crossing the center yellow line and causing a head-on collision.”He is also charged with drug possession and disorderly conduct in unrelated cases.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
