The gas leak happened because of construction nearby, according to a tweet from the Salt Lake City Fire Department. The intersection atimprove the 9-Line Trail. All foot and vehicle traffic was being denied to the area Wednesday afternoon, as crews from Dominion Energy work to repair the leak, officials said. It was unclear how many residents and businesses have been evacuated, but road closures and evacuations were implemented within a half-block of 9th and 9th, Salt Lake City Police said in a tweet.
Officials advised people to avoid the area, and could not say when the leak would be repaired. No injuries were reported.
