Dallas Fire-Rescue was called about 10 a.m. Wednesday to the Highland Hills Apartments, in the 5700 block of Highland Hills Drive, after someone reported smelling gas. Firefighters confirmed there was gas in one building and promptly shut it off. The building was mostly vacant and no tenants were home when crews arrived, Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.
Evans said the gas was not shut off to the entire complex, and Atmos Energy, the natural-gas supplier, was notified.Firefighters were previously called to the complex near Simpson Stuart and Bonnie View roads three months ago, on Sept. 29, to investigate reports of a gas leak. While crews were inside, one end of the building exploded.
