Bush realizó el primer lanzamiento del juego que puso en marcha la Serie Mundial, y tuvo como compañero de batería al excatcher puertorriqueño de los Rangers de Texas, Iván Rodríguez. La pelota lanzada por Bush picó una vez en el terreno, antes de llegar a Rodríguez. Bush, exgobernador de Texas, fue de 1989 a 1994 socio administrativo de los Rangers, que esta vez chocan contra los Diamondbacks de Arizona en el Clásico de Otoño.
“Bueno, esto es Texas”, dijo Jeter el viernes en una breve entrevista desde el túnel, detrás de la cueva de Texas, por el lado de la inicial. “Aunque la bola rebote, no te abuchearán”. “No, no”, respondió Bush. “No importa ahora”.
