GasBuddy warns “2023 is not going to be a cakewalk for motorists. It could be expensive.'
A driver pumping gas in late November in Houston said he isn’t sure what’s driving price changes.Drivers could get an early break at the gas pump in 2023, but events around the globe are expected to cause wild swings in fuel prices.
“2023 is not going to be a cakewalk for motorists. It could be expensive,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “The national average could breach $4 per gallon as early as May — and that’s something that could last through much of the summer driving season. Basically, curveballs are coming from every direction.”
As the world scrambled to replace Russian petroleum products lost to the market, gasoline prices started marching solidly upward — by mid-May, San Antonio drivers were paying more than $4 per gallon of gasoline for the first time. Prices retreated in the second half of the year, but mostly due to fears that a global economic downturn could hurt fuel demand.
