ICYMI: Good Samaritan saves drowning man from river in Saskatoon
Gibson spotted the man trying to cross the South Saskatchewan River with a bike near Spadina Crescent last Wednesday evening. He noticed the man’s progress had stalled, the water was up to his neck and his bike was gone.He and his friend ran over to where some passersby had gathered. From that vantage point, he could see the man looked exhausted and was dropping to his knees, he said.
They managed to return to shore, despite drifting 50 to 70 yards from where Gibson took his clothes off. He was only in the water for a few minutes, but his leg was “translucent” with “hundreds of veins in my legs,” he said, adding that his legs seized up from the cold water and he couldn’t even walk afterward.
Gibson said he only got three hours of sleep that night before he had to work at 5 a.m., but his plans to keep the incident to himself were spoiled as soon a coworker approached him.Article content
