Even Republican senators aren't sold on the GOP plan to fight over the debt ceiling again in a year

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's proposal

"I'm for striking a deal and changing the spending, but can we not do it every year?" the senator told The Hill. Senator Mike Rounds, a fellow Republican, also told The Hill that while he wishes"we could fix this thing once and for all" that's not going to happen"at this stage of the negotiations." Amid opposition from his own party, though, McCarthy plans to bring the bill to the House floor for a vote on Wednesday. Even if it passes the House, it faces a tough road ahead in a Democratic-controlled Senate and White House, meaning Congress will have to find another way to raise the debt ceiling before the USAnd both parties have refused to budge on their negotiating stances.
