UVALDE, Texas — While the National Rifle Association kicks off its annual convention in Houston on Friday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who was slated to speak, will not be in attendance.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Gov. Abbott will be addressing the convention via prerecorded video. Abbott will be holding a press conference to discuss the state’s efforts in supporting the community of Uvalde after the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary. He will be joined by local officials and state agency representatives.Other scheduled speakers and performers have backed out, such as “American Pie” singer Don McLean and several Texas lawmakers. That includes Republican Sen.
