DeWine announced Thursday that he’d chosen Daniel Conway for another five-year term. Conway, a Republican utilities lawyer, has served on the utilities commission since 2017, when then-Gov. John Kasich appointed him.

DeWine on Thursday reappointed Daniel Conway, a Republican utilities lawyer, to another five-year term on the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Gov. Mike DeWine has re-appointed an incumbent member of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to another term.

Officials with the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel, a state agency that functions as a watchdog for energy customers,DeWine to reject Conway and three other job finalists forwarded to the governor by a candidate-screening panel. All four, including Conway, have worked for the utilities industry.

“The governor understood the question to have been about if there was a vacancy to the position,” Tierney said. “So this was a different scenario than the governor had understood.”in a January 2020 PUCO decision
