Fast-growing Melissa has population growth and new housing developments that are attracting a garden center and a supermarket.
Green Acres Nursery & Supply opened its first Texas store in March in Irving on the north side of Interstate 635 at Belt Line Road next to the Cypress Waters development. The California-based retailer said it was looking for more locations and noted Melissa was on its radar.
The future Melissa garden center is directly in front of the Willow Grove mixed-use development with 650 apartments and 270 single-family lots. Other housing developments in the immediate area include the Quarry at Stoneridge, Trinity Falls, Auburndale and Hunters Ridge. “Markets north of McKinney, including Melissa and Anna, have experienced tremendous growth over the past few years,” Stream Realty Partners senior vice president Demian Salmon, who represented the sellers, Flamingo Daze LP along with associate Chap Bernet. “The population of Melissa is growing at a rate of 18.19% per year.”
