The long-acting needle-based combination of its drug cabotegravir and Janssen’s treatment rilpivirine met its main goal in the study, which was testing the regimen in adults with HIV-1 whose virus was suppressed. “This is further progress in our efforts to reduce the number of medicines a person living with HIV must take while also reducing the frequency of treatments,” said Kimberly Smith, Head of Research & Development at ViiV.
The HIV-1 category has the most widespread strains of the AIDS-causing virus, which severely affects the body’s immune system.
