Civale has used the events of the last two years to reconnect with the game he’s played since he was 4 years old. That should be on display Friday when he starts the home opener against Seattle at Progressive Field at 4:10 p.m.
This will be Civale’s first start in a home opener. He wants to enjoy the moment.
“It’s a goal of mine to get back into that mindset of having fun, enjoying what I do and taking nothing for granted,” said Civale. “It’s a little freeing when you go out there with that kind of mindset.Civale struck out three and allowed two hits in the win over Seattle.Civale said he’s worked a long time to reach his current state. His wife Francesca has helped him stay in a positive frame of mind.
“Anytime the game gets taken away from you it’s hard to process,” he said. “Sometimes it can get away from you. It’s a game we play that we love playing. It’s also our job. Trying to keep those lines separate can be difficult at times.
