John Adams' presence was felt all across Progressive Field on Friday.
, said Adams fueled his love and appreciation for sports growing up and instilled in him the idea of “giving everything” for your team.
“He was us in a nutshell, he’s exactly who we were,” Kelce said. “All those runs in the 90s where we sold this place out, those early 2000′s moments, man he was the heartbeat for a lot of us here in the Cleveland area.” President of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said his thoughts drifted to Adams during his drive to the ballpark, noting that many of his 25 home openers included encounters with Adams while talking to local radio personality Mike Trivisonno, who also passed away in 2021.
“They were part of the ritual for me on opening day,” Antonetti said. “Oftentimes when I’d go and connect with Triv, John would be there and we’d get a chance to connect. A lot of people will certainly miss both of them today.”“That speaks to John’s unique place in our history and just how much he cared about the organization,” Antonetti said. “But I think he also represents a lot of Cleveland baseball fans.
