On Monday, Halle Bailey cemented her place in that world as she revealed a doll created to coincide with the May release of Disney’s new live-action film version of “The Little Mermaid,” in which she plays Ariel.
Reactions to the trailer quickly went viral on TikTok. In response, BaileyParents are taking to TikTok to share videos of their young daughters' reactions to Halle Bailey, who will star as Ariel in “The Little Mermaid,” out May 2023.
When introducing the doll on Monday, the Grammy-nominated artist wrote that “the little girl in me is pinching herself right now,” adding that she couldn’t believe how much the doll “captures my version of this iconic character.” But accepting the part came with early challenges. Since Disney announced in 2019 that Bailey would play Ariel, the actress hasBailey relied on support from her family as she took on the role. She told Variety that her grandparents told her: “You don’t understand what this is doing for us, for our community, for all the little Black and Brown girls who are going to see themselves in you.”“I’m just stunned,” Bailey said in the video.
