Halloween 1978 left one Michael Myers plot hole that has been debated over the years, but the franchise already fixed it... twice, in different ways.

John Carpenter’s Halloween left a couple of plot holes, but one in particular has already been fixed twice, though in very different ways. The Halloween movie saga has been retconned a couple of times, making way for different timelines, each with its own explanation of why Michael Myers is the way he is and is so difficult to kill, and of course, none of them have been safe from plot holes.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY After killing his sister when he was six years old, Michael Myers was sent to Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, where he stayed for 15 years. On October 30, 1978, Michael Myers escaped, and as his doctor, Samuel Loomis , was about to escort him for a hearing, Michael stole his car and arrived at his hometown Haddonfield, Illinois, the following day.

Unlike in the original 1978 movie, Zombie’s Michael Myers didn’t know how to drive, and instead, he just killed a truck driver for his clothes and continued his way back to Haddonfield, walking. Although having Michael Myers knowing how to drive after spending most of his life incarcerated adds to the mystery of his character and how terrifying he is as it shows his intelligence, Zombie’s fix was also beneficial to his version of this slasher killer.

The Halloween Novelization Explains How Michael Myers Can Drive In 1979, a novelization of Carpenter’s Halloween, written by Curtis Richards , was published, and it included a couple of details and scenes that the movie didn’t, though some of these are contradictory or make no sense, such as Michael speaking while at Smith’s Grove, even though Loomis famously says in the movie that he hadn’t spoken in 15 years.
