The final public meeting is set for June 22.
Monday's meeting led to constructive dialogue between city residents and engineers from Dawood Engineering, Inc.Harrisburg held its second public meeting Monday night on the State Street construction project.
The meeting led to constructive dialogue between city residents and engineers from Dawood Engineering, Inc., city Director of Communications Matt Maisel said in a news release. Some of that involved a desire on the part of the bicycling community to have protected bike lanes and neighborhood residents to maintain parking spaces.
At the center of both arguments is safety. PennDOT, which owns the road, says it will not approve any road smaller than five lanes , the release said. The Capital Beltway is about to undergo a massive construction project, and as one of the nearest and largest adjacent state roads, PennDOT wants to keep State Street fully functional in the event of detours.
The concept designs shown at these first two meetings are essentially rough drafts, Maisel said in his release. Engineers now will take the input from the meetings and for the next two weeks assemble a final draft concept. That will go in front of PennDOT and residents at a June 22 public meeting at the school district administration building.
