Police said more than $6,300 in unauthorized purchases were made on a debit card belonging to the victim.
A Harrisburg woman was charged with one count of access fraud in Lancaster County., 28, after they say she posed as a bank employee to obtain financial information, and that more than $6,300 in unauthorized transactions were made on a debit card belonging to a person in Manheim Township.
Police say the victim received a text message from someone claiming to be the victim’s bank, and the message said that the checking account had been frozen due to fraud and instructed the person to call a phone number. The victim called the number and gave personal information to the person they believed was a bank representative, and the person ended the call by saying they would check on a few things and get back to the victim, police said.After not hearing back, police said the victim called the bank’s customer service and learned that the phone number did not belong to the bank, and they did not send out text messages of that nature.
Police said that the victim later discovered that the debit card was kept active and transferred to the new checking account. The victim learned that the debit card had been used to make unauthorized transactions between Feb. 3 and Feb. 6 totaling $6,302.27, which included transactions at a Bob Evans restaurant,
