Health care workers still reeling from pandemic burnout called for higher pay and better staffing in a Labor Day rally with about 300 people in the grassy amphitheater at La Mesa’s Harry Griffen Park.
Bruce Hartman, a spokesperson at Sharp Grossmont, said hospital administrators were unaware of Monday’s rally. Brigette Browning of the San Diego Labor Council said there are “striking disparities” between the compensation for top administrators and regular staff workers in the health care industry.La Mesa City Councilmember Jack Shu listens as health care workers speak.
“I know that the health of my community is really in your hands,” said Campillo, whose council district includes Grossmont. “Patients suffer when health care companies don’t pay you what you deserve.” Fatima Ghoulam, a health care partner for Sharp Grossmont, and her daughter, Yara, 5, speak to dozens of health care workers during the rally.
