Michael Conforto avoided the injured list but still wasn’t sure if he would be able to step into the batter’s box in his former home stadium this weekend.
NEW YORK — A onetime resident of the Upper East Side, Giants outfielder Michael Conforto was back in his old neighborhood Friday morning. Making his first visit to Citi Field as a member of the opposition, Conforto was able to take his old route to the ballpark he called home for the first seven seasons of his big-league career.
With Alex Cobb scheduled to start the series opener for the Giants, a corresponding move needed to be made to activate him from the injured list before the game. Conforto apparently came out of his pregame hitting drills feeling well because rather than place him on the IL, San Francisco optioned David Villar to Triple-A in a move announced 25 minutes before first pitch.
