The Cardinal are once again a No. 1 seed in the women's NCAA tournament.
Stanford Cardinal head coach Tara VanDerveer celebrates after her team's victory against the Utah Utes in the championship game of the Pac-12 Conference women's basketball tournament at Michelob ULTRA Arena on March 06, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Cardinal defeated the Utes 73-48.Last year, the Stanford Cardinal entered the 2021 women's NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed.
The short answer is yes. This season's squad actually got off to a slow start, at least compared with sky-high expectations. Defeats to Texas, South Florida and South Carolina during non-conference play kept Stanford at an uninspired 8-3 record. But then Pac-12 competition began, and the Cardinal returned to form. Led by sophomore Cameron Brink and junior Haley Jones, they haven't lost a game since, finishing 28-3 overall.
