Jack Mota rushed for 202 yards and four touchdowns to lift Jay to a 40-17 win against Sotomayor on Thursday night at Gustafson Stadium.
Sotomayor junior defensive back Leif Caballero returned a punt to the Jay 4-yard line to set the Wildcats up in scoring position early in the second quarter. On the next play, quarterback Logan Plake called his own number and punched in a touchdown to reduce the deficit to six. On the following drive, Wildcats sophomore tight end Jace Cano had a catch and run of 58 yards to put Sotomayor in the red zone just before halftime. Sophomore kicker Jesse Perez sent a 27-yard field goal through the uprights to cut the deficit to 20-10 heading into the break.
A mishandled snap on fourth down set Jay up with first and goal from the Sotomayor 3-yard line, and Mota bulldozed over the goal line on the next play to push the lead to 33-10.
