Edna jumped out to an early lead and held off a Blanco comeback in the second half to advance to the Class 3A Division I regional final with a 36-22 win over the Panthers Friday night at Farris Stadium.“We turned it over more than they did,” first-year Blanco coach Jamie Dixon said after the game. “You can’t turn the ball over in big games.”
The Cowboys cracked the scoreboard again in the second quarter. With Blanco driving, Edna’s defense came up with a stop on fourth down deep in Panthers territory. Blanco answered to keep the score within reach. Tomlinson set up his offense at the Edna 30 after a long kickoff return. The Panthers were able to convert on a fourth-and-short to keep the drive alive at the 20-yard line. The play after, Cameron Anderson found Tomlinson in the back corner of the end zone, where the do-everything senior wrestled the ball away from an Edna defender for the score.
