AMC is dropping its documentary seriesnext month, and now we have our first look and listen at what’s on tap. Sample the new trailer above and the key art below.
Spanning three decades of hip-hop history and cultural revolution, each episode focuses on a groundbreaking song pivotal to the evolution of American music and culture. The tracks studied are Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks” , Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” , Run-D.M.C.’s “Rock Box” , Queen Latifah’s “Ladies First” , MC Shan’s “The Bridge” and OutKast’s “Elevators” .
The artists, their collaborators and other influential musical and cultural figures deconstruct compositions, revisit the impact the song had on them personally and dissect the socioeconomic and cultural conditions that inspired the landmark work and gave voice to a generation. Erik Parker and One9 directed the series from executive producers Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Oscar winner Alex Gibney, along with Shawn Gee, Stacey Offman, Richard Perello, and Shea Serrano.is part of AMC’s Visionaries series from Jigsaw Productions in association with Two One Five Entertainment.
