Montgomery County officials attribute a drop in DWI arrests over the holidays to...
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Blake LaPaglia checked information on his computer in his patrol vehicle in May. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office again is targeting drunken drivers and other impaired motorists over the holiday weekend.
"I would love to tell you one day that we had zero DWI offenses, but until that day comes, we stand ready to answer the call," said Brittany Hansford, vehicular crimes chief for the county district attorney's office. Law enforcement agencies such as county sheriff's office boosted the number of deputies on patrol, in addition to the agency's regular patrol and traffic deputies, over the New Years holiday weekend. Most agencies in the county participated in a"No Refusal" initiative, where drivers suspected of being intoxicated are served with search warrants for their blood if they refuse to submit to a blood test.
"We have done partnerships with ride share and wreck companies previously," said Lt. Scott Spencer with the sheriff's office."As a county, we benefit from that partnership, we will always push that initiative in an effort to curb impaired driving."
