Padres fourth-rounder Homer Bush Jr. is the son of an infielder the team drafted in the seventh round in 1991
That includes a potential two-way prospect in the University of Mobile’s Tucker Musgrove in the seventh round, two college infielders and two college outfielders — including the son of a player the Padres drafted seven years before watching the older Bush win a World Series ring.
After his playing career ended, the elder Bush even coached the Padres’ affiliate in Eugene, Ore. Homer Bush Jr. was in middle school.But that didn’t lead to an automatic foot in the door for the younger Bush. “I remember being 18 years old and on the second field with 23- and 24-year-olds,” Bush recalled. “It made things really tough initially.”
