UPDATE: Investigators release new details about a law enforcement shootout with a suspect who killed a woman and led a cross-county chase.
A 28-year-old man suspected in a fatal shooting is dead after a multi-agency pursuit and a shootout with law enforcement officers in Oceanside Friday, according to San Diego police.
The incident began just before midnight about three miles west when Oceanside police were called to investigate a domestic violence disturbance at a home on Fredricks Avenue. Oceanside police learned a woman who was in a relationship with the suspect was shot and killed while four children ranging in ages from 4 to 17 years old were present, according to Oceanside police.
Oceanside police at one point set out spike strips to demobilize the vehicle. When the vehicle came to a stop at a strip mall, the suspect took off on foot, SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said. During the foot pursuit, the suspect fired shots toward an Oceanside officer and a Riverside County sheriff's deputy, prompting both officers to return fire.
