We chat with TheNightAgent star Hong Chau about stepping into the political thriller genre and picking sides when playing parts:
Netflix's The Night Agent is an exciting political thriller from the mind of Shawn Ryan . The 10-episode series centers on Peter Sutherland and Rose Larkin , a low-level FBI agent and young tech CEO, who become embroiled in a far-reaching, and deadly, conspiracy. The Night Agent is based on a book by Matthew Quirk of the same name.
Hong Chau: I had just never worked on anything in this genre; it's a political thriller. I have never played an authority figure like a politician. And I was a fan of Shawn Ryan [and] of his previous shows. [I'm a fan] of Terriers and The Shield, and I was just curious to get to work with him. It was a really nice experience.
One of the questions early on that I asked Shawn Ryan [was], "What is it about this story that made you want to adapt it? What are you trying to say differently here, other than to entertain people?" I think he had really thought about it; he wanted to explore the different relationships between men and women and how they work together and collaborate in a professional setting. I thought that was really interesting.
