Pro-democracy demonstrator Joseph Cheng told: “It’s generally believed that the Carrie Lam administration is sort of cleaning up the mess, so to speak, as instructed by Xi Jinping. And she would like to bring the situation under control by the Oct. 1 National Day.
Some 900 people have been arrested during the protests, Hong Kong’s biggest political crisis since it was handed back to China by the British in 1997.
