WASHINGTON—A new House committee holds its first hearing Tuesday evening to draw attention to China’s, business and military power that the panel says pose a challenge to U.S. interests and values.
“We may call this a ‘strategic competition,’” Rep. Mike Gallagher chairman of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, is expected to say, according to prepared remarks. “But this is not a polite tennis match. This is an existential struggle over what life will look like in the 21st century, and the most fundamental freedoms are at stake.”
