With a global spotlight on the US soccer team at the Women's World Cup, the House Democratic Women's Caucus is urging the sport's governing body to 'correct course and close' an 'indefensible' wage gap between male and female players.

The letter was signed by 52 members of the House, including Democratic Women's Caucus co-chairs Jackie Speier of California, Lois Frankel of Florida and Brenda Lawrence of Michigan.The U.S. women's soccer team filed its federal lawsuit before the World Cup, of engaging in “institutionalized gender discrimination” reflected in differences in pay, medical care, travel arrangements and overall workload for the men's and women's teams.The American women play Sunday for the World Cup title against the winner of Wednesday's match between the Netherlands and Sweden. Kickoff on Sunday is set for 5 p.m. local time in Lyon, France, which is 11 a.m. ET.
