Houston DJ Chicken George battles back against cancer

He went to the doctor, eventually going through the usual lab tests and blood work. At first, the doctor initially thought it had something to do with his thyroid. Then, it was misdiagnosed as eczema. Things began getting serious the following July when his eyebrows started to thin, eventually falling out. “I just knew something was up, you know,” he says. “Originally, it was just on my arms and on my torso. And, then, it started to spread increasingly to my legs.
Henry has had two surgeries since his diagnosis, with one of them consisting of installing a device in his chest so he can receive chemotherapy infusions. After one hit of chemo, he has seen some positive effects. “My skin is tightening up,” he says. “It’s starting to clear up a little bit. The flakiness has definitely reduced considerably.”
Friends have also been helping out Henry via benefit shows. His Austin Boogie Crewmates recently did a show in Austin that raised $1200. Hip-hop journalist/promoter/podcaster Matt Sonzala, another Houstonian who flocked to Austin, is currently working on organizing a marathon livestream on Twitch, where DJs from all over will perform and raise money for 12 hours.
